Meta Funds NMSU Program to Bring VR Into K-12 Classrooms

New Mexico State University's Global Campus has received funding from Meta's Los Lunas data center to launch 'VR for Educators,' a professional training course helping K-12 teachers bring immersive technology into everyday teaching. The self-paced online program covers VR fundamentals, instructional design, classroom implementation and real-world use cases, aiming to boost student engagement and learning experiences. Courses open in fall 2026, first to teachers in communities around the Meta data center, then expanding to more US school districts via the NMSU Global Campus micro-credential platform. NMSU notes VR can offer experiences traditional classrooms cannot — such as exploring the solar system in immersive 3D to deepen science understanding — while Meta says the partnership aims to equip students with the skills needed for the future digital economy through teacher training.

该项目名为“VR for Educators”，采用线上自主学习模式，课程内容涵盖VR基础知识、教学设计、课堂实施方法及实际应用案例，帮助教师利用VR提升学生的课堂参与度和学习体验。课程计划于2026年秋季学期首先面向Meta数据中心所在社区的教师开放，随后通过NMSU全球校区的微证书学习平台推广至全美更多学区。

NMSU表示，VR技术可以帮助学生获得传统课堂难以提供的学习体验，例如通过沉浸式三维环境探索太阳系，加深对科学知识的理解。Meta方面则表示，此次合作旨在通过教师职业培训，帮助学生掌握未来数字经济所需的技能。

据了解，自2019年Los Lunas数据中心投入运营以来，Meta已通过244笔资助向当地学校、非营利组织及社区机构累计提供超过580万美元资金。
